Since November 1, 2024, there has been a geometric increase in the price of kilowatts from 50frs to 79frs without any convincing reason from the electricity supply company (ENEO). An act which the collective organization of Cameroon consumers (COC) headed by Kaldjob Simon and the Cameroon consumers fondation under the stewardship of Alphonse Ayissi Abena stormed the head office of the electricity company in Bali Douala Thursday November 14, to denounce the drastic changes in the price tag of a kilowatt at a point in time when, Cameroonians are still struggling to cope with the current economic hardship in the country.
Though their peaceful protest was met with a stiff resistance from security and defense forces ,members of the two organizations brandished diverse messages such as « Give us our normal meters », »Prepaid meters are more costly to handle »just to name this few.
To Alphonse Ayissi Abena of FOCACO, though the D.O for Douala 1 never granted them authorization to carryout their peaceful demonstration,a new date for another protest will be fixed and communicated.For sure, the economic situation of the country is not friendly in almost every sector in the country.
To some Cameroonians,they question how the increase will help resolve the epileptic power supply in the country when at 50frs per kilowatt it was a hard knot to crack.It is therefore the wish of many Cameroonians to enjoy this amenity which practically their day to day activities rely on,in contributing to the growth of our economy.
