On the hills of hosting the 19th session of cardiac surgery which started since December 1 and to end on the 16, officials of the Douala general hospital examines their report card during a press conference,in meeting the hope and aspirations of all Cameroonians.
Cardiovascular diseases remain a thorn in the flesh of every society in the globe and different governments continue to employ diverse means of breaking it’s contamination chain including Cameroon.It explains why, hosting the 19th session of cardiac surgery by the Douala general hospital alongside with her Franco- Belgian partners headed by Prof.Ngatchou William, the health experts are rallying all effort necessary to get the pathology under control.Before settling down for a press briefing with the media Thursday December 7, the high power delegation lead a tour to the different blocks hosting patients who have successfully undergone cardiac operation since they started the exercise.According to Dr.Jean-Luc Jansen cardiac surgeon who among the visiting delegation from Europe,the partnership between the Douala general hospital and foreign experts is on a good footing and can only get better because,it is good in saving lives.

However,Prof.Henry Luma Namme who is the director general at the Douala general hospital while talking to the press says,the government of Cameroon through the ministry of public health continues to multiply efforts to ensure the health structure meets international standard and harbors close to 3 hemodialysis centers to satisfy her patients.For the past 11 years , the Douala general hospital has successfully carried out 160 cardiac surgery during 2 sessions each year in May and November respectively.Plans are equally underway to sponsor a Cameroonian medical doctor to go for further studies in Europe on handling special cardiac surgery cases which is evolving.

It should be stated here that, the cost of a cardiac surgery usually cost 5 million frs in the past but today,it ranges from 1.5 – 3 million frs at the Douala general hospital depending on how complex a situation is.The Douala general hospital with slogan ‘Patient first’, the director general insist,the hospital is not only for the rich but as well, the poor too could have their say in the process of service rendering.
