A commercial bike rider was fatally shot by a police officer in the Commercial Avenue neighborhood of Bamenda on Thursday, August 8, 2024. The incident occurred during a solidarity ride organized by bike riders to mourn the death of their colleague, Godlove, who was recently crushed by a truck.
Eyewitnesses claim the police officer opened fire after the bike rider failed to heed orders to stop and instead moved towards the officer. This tragic event comes just hours after two police officers were killed by suspected separatists in a financial institution near Savana Junction.
The solidarity ride turned chaotic when armed men, believed to be separatists, infiltrated the group. Many riders insist they were solely participating in the mourning of their fallen colleague. The atmosphere in Bamenda remains tense as the body of Godlove is transported to his hometown of Awing for burial. Police officers are expressing outrage over the killing of their colleagues.
